About Printer Setup

• Printer ...MORE Select the printer that DAZzle uses to print your mailpiece.
• Paper Feed Source ...MORE Select the paper feed method you use with the selected printer. If you print envelopes, you should test your selected feed option to see if the envelope prints correctly. Not all printers or feed options print envelopes properly. See your printer documentation to find the recommended method for printing envelopes.
• Printer Paper Size  ...MORE Select the paper size for your printer. This paper size is not the size of your envelope or label, and the paper size does not have to be the same as your selected media. Most printers only support a limited number of different paper sizes, while DAZzle can print on a large variety of sizes. Normally, select 8 1/2 x 11 inches, letter size, or, if available, the size of paper that matches your media selection.
  
  However, some printers impose limitations on some paper sizes thereby requiring the selection of a paper size different from the media selection. For example, most laser printers have an unprintable region of about 1/4 inch around all sides of the paper or envelope. This means that return addresses, barcodes and images cannot be placed near the edge of the envelope. However, the printer can be tricked. That is, by selecting 8 1/2 x 11 inches as the paper size and feeding an envelope, NO unprintable region is present. DAZzle automatically compensates for the difference between the actual paper size and the printer paper size.
• Save Printer Information with Layout ...MORE The Save Printer Information with Layout option allows each layout to have a different printer associated with it. If you have multiple printers, you can create a layout that automatically switches to a specific printer.

The Envelope Offset option allows you to finely adjust the location of your envelope for your printer. Normally, both values are left at zero. However, every printer is slightly different and if you find your envelopes consistently print too high or low (or right or left), you can adjust the print location on the mailpiece. You should run test prints to get the offset value correct for your printer.

Because envelopes and labels are generally smaller than sheets of paper, DAZzle needs to know where you feed the envelope or label from. This option is primarily for laser printers that feed envelopes in one of the three different paths. You may need to test a few envelopes to determine what works best for your printer.

Select the envelope orientation options that apply to your printer. The picture shows how the envelopes go in your printer. For the recommended technique for feeding envelopes, see your printer documentation. Choices may include:

• Portrait or Landscape  ...MORE You can print mailpieces in portrait or landscape (sideways) mode. The default setting is landscape for envelopes and labels on laser printers and portrait for all other layouts and printers. You can override this default setting.
• Face Up or Face Down ...MORE Indicate if the envelope or label should be fed into the printer facing up or facing down.
• For envelopes: Left End First or Right End First ...MORE This option, together with the feeder location (right, left, center) helps DAZzle print the envelope in the correct location.
• For labels: Top or Bottom ...MORE This option, together with the feeder location (Right, Left, Center) helps DAZzle print the labels in the correct location.
• Left Side, or Center, or Right Side ...MORE Select the paper feeder location. If you have a choice of where your printer can feed the envelope, select Center, and some of the unprintable regions should be eliminated.

Selection of the Printing Rotation option rotates the printing 180 degrees (in other words, the top becomes the bottom). This feature is useful for printers that have a large unprintable area along the top of the mailpiece but not along the bottom. Using this option swaps the large unprintable area to the bottom. Then items, such as the FIM Code, can be printed close to the top edge. This feature can also be useful when a large unprintable area is on one side (for example, the right) and you want to print the indicium there.

Because this rotation option causes all the printing to be rotated, you must also rotate the envelope, label, or postcard before putting envelope, label, or postcard into the printer. This often means that the envelope is fed the opposite way of the printer manufacturer recommendations.

If you have either the Professional or Platinum service plans and a Zebra label printer, you can optionally print your Zebra-compatible labels at high-speed. For example, a label that normally takes about 4 seconds to print, may take about 1 second to print.

High-speed printing does not support:

• Any customized images that you have added to the label.
• Selections of font, font style, color, or effect.
• Rotated Text Boxes.

Options in the Printing Speed area include:

• Normal: For use with any service plan and any label printer.
• High Speed: Available only for those with Professional or Platinum service plans and Zebra label printers and Zebra labels. Customized images—those that you added to the label layout—will not print when in high-speed mode.

Important! When you use the High Speed mode, the label font and appearance will change. It is strongly recommended that you perform a test print when you set the High Speed mode.

Click the Test Print button to verify the correct alignment of your postage or labels. This command will help you avoid wasting real postage and supplies due to printer alignment issues. That is, any postage that you print using the Test Print command is not valid.

Printer Paper Size: If you select an envelope instead of paper, most printers impose unprintable regions all the way around the envelope. Instead, select Letter (8 1/2 x 11 inches) as the paper size. To see the difference this can make, verify the Print Preview.
